President’s Closing Remarks: Gear Highlights Nurses’ Collective Power
As BCNU Convention 2024 came to a close, union President Adriane Gear delivered a powerful message, emphasizing the importance of collective action and the need for delegates to bring the lessons learned back to their communities.
“I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work we’ve done over the past few days. With over 500 dedicated nurses gathered here, we’ve demonstrated the strength, unity, and unwavering commitment that defines the BC Nurses’ Union,” she said.
“It was great to see so many of you connecting, sharing stories, and laying the groundwork for the discussions and decisions that followed.”
Gear spoke about the successful start with a meet and greet event, fostering connections and setting the stage for productive discussions. She emphasized the pivotal moment of the convention: the rally where attendees unified to advocate for minimum nurse-to-patient ratios in worksites across BC. She highlighted how this moment exemplified the collective strength and determination of the union.
Expressing her gratitude, Gear acknowledged the Shaughnessy Heights region for hosting, the vendors for their support, and the BCNU staff for their dedication to ensuring a productive and memorable experience for all. As the convention concluded, she urged delegates to carry forward the spirit of unity and collective action, emphasizing the ongoing fight for progress and the importance of combined efforts in achieving meaningful change.
“Let’s remain united and committed to our shared goals. I am confident that we will continue to achieve great things when we work as a collective,” she said.
