Steward Essentials
The purpose of Steward Essentials is to create a consistent practice for steward work so you can build a cohesive steward team that is able to advocate for, and empower, members and uphold/protect the collective agreement.
Learners will have access to online resources to prepare for the course and will participate in live sessions on day one and day two to assist in deepening their understanding through practice and by accessing ‘just in time’ toolkit resources that support stewards in fulfilling their role. Topics covered include: how to read and interpret a collective agreement, essential skills required for union/management meetings, how and when to file grievances and how to navigate the grievance process.
Course Format:
Four-week blended learning course with weekly online learning activities and two live sessions.
Eligibility:
Prior to taking this course you should:
- be designated as a BCNU steward.
- have taken the Building Union Strength course.
