Student Nurse Advocacy Bursary

The Student Nurse Advocacy Bursary is a BCNU initiative that recognizes the role of allyship in increasing awareness of human rights and equity issues. Learn more about BCNU's caucus groups and networks, and how you may get involved.

The 2024 selection focus is on those students who advance the interests and priorities of all equity seeking caucuses. BCNU recognizes the financial challenges students face when in school. Providing funding for students whose values and beliefs align with those of BCNU builds relationships and recognizes the contributions these students make to further social justice within a diversified membership. The $500 Student Nurse Advocacy Bursary is awarded to 32 students from around the province. This bursary is open to student LPNs, RNs and RPNs, internationally educated nurses, and employed student nurses. here.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a BCNU student member or a BCNU IEN associate member. Sign up to be a BCNU student member or a BCNU IEN associate member. Membership is free. If you have already signed up, but do not have your BCNU student ID number or your BCNU IEN associate member ID number, email the BCNU membership department. Your application will not be processed without your BCNU student ID number or your BCNU IEN associate member ID number.
  • Be enrolled in a school of nursing and taking a nursing program in British Columbia.

This is a one-time bursary. If you have applied for and received funding from this bursary in the past, you are not eligible to apply again.  

Application Process

Applications are open from January to Sept. 15. The application deadline is Sept. 15 of each year.

Complete the online application form which includes an associated waiver when applying for the bursary.

The BCNU Bursary Committee will randomly draw eligible applicants for the bursary after the deadline. Decisions of the Bursary Committee are final.

Notification emails will be sent to the randomly drawn bursary recipients near the end of October. Please ensure you check your junk mail folders.

Award Disbursement

Applicants meeting the eligibility requirements will be entered into a random draw for this bursary. Successful applicants will include a minimum of one (1) student member from each of BCNU’s 16 regions.

Successful applicants will be notified by email with instructions and will be required to provide their social insurance number (SIN) for tax purposes as well as proof of enrolment and fees/tuition paid before funds are released.
