2SLGBTQ+ Caucus

Our aim is to provide a safer space for union members who identify as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and other gender identities and sexual orientations that are not cisgender or heteronormative. In recognition of the complex and evolving language in our community, the “+” in our name is inclusive of people who identify as part of gender and sexually diverse communities who use additional terminologies.
The caucus meets twice a year, bringing together one representative from each BCNU region. For more information on the roles and responsibilities of a caucus regional representative, please click here. The caucus also elects delegates to the annual BCNU Convention.

Resources
- Using inclusive language can go a long way to creating a safe and welcoming environment – in the Union, your workplace and your community. Here’s a glossary developed by QMUNITY staff and volunteers to assist you in the process of creating this safe and welcoming environment.
- As Canada’s population continues to age in increasing numbers, the number of 2SLGBTQ+ seniors also increases. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (2SLGBTQ+) seniors are deeply concerned about being able to receive queer and trans competent care when moving from independent living to assisted living or residential care. This discussion paper, produced by QMUNITY, is a summary of findings and recommendations to provide culturally competent care for 2SLGBTQ+ seniors in residential care and assisted living.

BCNU Advocacy
In November 2021, BCNU asked the federal government to eliminate the practice of conversion therapy. On Dec. 8, 2021, Canada’s Governor-General granted royal assent to Bill C-4, banning the practice in Canada.
