Biography
Scott Duvall began his nursing career after graduating as a registered nurse from Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in 2009. Before becoming a nurse, he worked in a variety of roles including construction, customer service, software sales and as a paramedic.
After graduating from the nursing program at TRU, Scott put his education to work at various intensive care units and emergency rooms in the Thompson North Okanagan region, including at Royal Inland Hospital and Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Scott has dedicated much of his time to being an active member of BCNU. He assumed a role as a BCNU steward in 2011, and participated in multiple Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) committees to advocate for safe working conditions for nurses in the workplace. These experiences drove him to seek roles with the Thompson North Okanagan regional executive team. During this time, he was elected to various roles including communications secretary, regional treasurer and finally, as regional council member in 2020 and 2023.
Scott is committed to supporting members in all facilities across BC. Through his work on JOHS committees, Scott witnessed firsthand how nurses’ working conditions impact patient care. He is dedicated to ensuring communities and provincial government officials understand the extent of this impact. His other priorities and goals include increasing member engagement, promoting ongoing education and incorporating the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of the union.
Scott currently lives in Vernon, located on the traditional territory of the Syilx people of the Okanagan Nation. He has two grown sons.
Scott was elected interim provincial treasurer by the BCNU Council in September 2023.
