Bio
Shannon has worked in various capacities related to nursing over the last 18 years. She has experience as a certified emergency nurse, forensic nurse, palliative care, and multiple public health programs from the frontline through management. She consults as a program development specialist and continues to work at the bedside via her forensic nurse examiner work.
She pursued her Master in Public Health while working in the United States at Oregon Health and Sciences University and recently finished her Doctorate Degree at the University of Calgary in the Adult Education program.
Shannon joined Vancouver Island University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in 2013 and continues as a full-time faculty member and researcher. Her primary research focus is on the topic of self-compassion and the impact it has on flourishing and diverse communities of practice, career satisfaction, substance use rates, absenteeism, and retention rates.
