Nurses transferred from the public service to health employers entitled to layoff provisions including severance

June 22, 2015
Members at Oak Bay Lodge, Broadmead and Forensics are eligible for Article 13 layoff and severance benefits due to change of employer

The BC Labour Board recently dismissed two government appeals on Arbitrator John B. Hall's award that found the government breached nurses' Verrin Rights by not allowing them to displace into other public service positions, or end their employment and receive severance payments.

Arbitrator Hall's August 26, 2014 award said that nurses who were employed by the public service at Oak Bay Lodge, Broadmead and Forensics and were transferred to health authorities on June 1, 2013, are eligible for displacement and severance rights under Article 13 of the Public Services Nurses Bargaining Association contract.

BCNU members who were employed at these facilities on June 1, 2013, and want information on their layoff and recall rights, or severance payments, should contact the BCNU representatives below.
