BCNU Welcomes Announcement of National Inquiry
In addition we are pleased to note that the government is committed to engaging with the survivors, family members and loved ones of victims, as well as Indigenous leaders and organizations across the country - by way of determining the scope and design of the inquiry.
Through the Aboriginal Leadership Circle and the voices of our members, BCNU was one of many organizations that had called on the previous federal government to hold a national inquiry into the ongoing tragedy of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
Today we remain committed to the health and human rights of our members and communities and to ensuring equal access to the social determinants of health for all. We applaud the government for recognizing "that a number of factors, like racism, marginalization, sexism, and poverty have contributed to the ongoing tragedy of murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls".
BCNU will continue to speak out in support of its Indigenous members and the rights of all Indigenous peoples in their ongoing struggle for genuine human rights and justice.
