Damages Award Now Provided to RN and RPN Members on Maternity/Paternity Leave
Following discussions among the BCNU executive committee, it has been decided that RN and RPN members covered by the NBA who are currently on maternity/paternity leave will be included in the damages payout. This decision is a direct response to concerns raised by RN and RPN members currently on maternity/paternity leave who have been otherwise excluded based on the fact that their college registration status is "non-practicing".
In order to receive their portion of the damages award, members must pay attention to the following process:
- Any member on maternity/paternity leave who has registered as "non-practicing" must provide proof of their leave by completing the RN/RPN Damages - Proof of Registration Form online (found behind the BCNU Member Portal) and provide a copy of their Record of Employment (ROE). This must be submitted before June 30, 2017.
- Upon their return to work after having registered as "practicing", members must provide a copy of their practicing registration showing proof of payment before February 28, 2018.
- Once BCNU has received proof of practicing registration, payment will be provided within 45 days.
A reminder to all LPN members: shift premiums that were negotiated into the current contract have come into effect. All LPNs who have worked evenings, nights, or weekends are encouraged to confirm that they are in fact receiving these premiums effective April 1, NOT the first pay period after April 1, 2017. For more details on these new premiums, read the BCNU bulletin published April 3.
