Education Funding Available for Nurses Linked to Long-term Care, Mental Health and Substance Use
Nurses pursuing education in the areas of community care of frail and medically complex seniors, including long-term care, mental health, and substance use can apply to receive up to $1,000 from the Strategic Priorities Education Fund (SPEF).
In addition, nurses advancing across the career ladder, for example, an LPN pursuing an education toward an RN designation, or an RN or RPN seeking a BSN, are also eligible.
Members have until September 15, 2017 to apply. Applicants will be reviewed by the bursary committee and contacted if they fit the requirements to receive the support.
To be eligible, members must have received funding from the Member Education Bursary (MEB) in the past. If you haven't applied for the MEB click here for the form.
A member cannot receive funding from both the MEB and the SPEF in the same bursary intake.
The Strategic Priorities Education Fund is a secured one-time fund in the amount of $5-million dollars aimed to support education related to strategic priorities including long-term care, mental health, substance use, and career laddering. During negotiations between the Ministry of Health and BCNU in the last round of bargaining, it was determined it was important to address the needs within these areas of nursing.
The opportunity through the Strategic Priorities Education Fund will continue while funds exist.
Nurses who meet the requirements for the SPEF can click here for an online version of the application form.
