Grievance settlement

April 02, 2015
Grievance settlement sets a tone for productive bargaining

A grievance settlement has been reached which resolves all outstanding safe staffing grievances related to the 2012 Provincial Collective Agreement (PCA) safe staffing language and sets a path to improve future staffing.

This settlement agreement could not have been reached without the hard work of BCNU members and stewards speaking out and filing grievances demanding safe patient care.

There are commitments to increase specialty nurse education in 2015/16. Community nurse absences will be replaced as was agreed in the 2012 MOU and funds will be made available for new technology equipment for community nurses.

More information about this settlement will be circulated to BCNU members next week.

Members who need to address workplace staffing issues before the new processes are implemented should follow your current process. Contact your steward. Utilize grievance forms and PRFs to document incidents where absent nurses are not replaced or heavy workload exceeds a nurse's ability to provide safe patient care.
