LPN rotations in the process of changing to be made NBA compliant

February 28, 2017
All LPN standard (7.5) hours rotations are in the process of being changed as reported out in the contract ratification information May 2016.

The rotations are changing to meet the Nurses Bargaining Association (NBA) rules which include:

  • weekends off (guaranteed 1 in 3 or 3 in 9 off in the master rotation)
  • only single or two shift patterns (example day/evening, evening/night, day/night) schedules

The process is currently underway with the employers.

As part of the six steps of mutuality required to change rotations the employer will provide a rotation for members to consider.

Members have the rights to either submit another rotation OR provide feedback to the employer to make alterations to the proposed rotation.

Once consultation has been provided, if there are 2 or more rotations for members to choose from, the members get to vote on which rotation they wish to have implemented. Majority vote wins.

Rotations are to be posted 6 weeks or more in advance, should members not have a rotation chosen in that time period the employer should connect with the Union LRO to problem solve the situation.

Members can seek support in creating a new rotation through BCNU. Emails can be sent to JanaMcGuinness@bcnu.org.

Please ensure only one person from a unit is communicating with Jana. Provide the name of the unit, the facility name, the current rotation (if possible), the number of nurses and the current FTE's. If there are DTA's with shift restrictions, please provide this information also.

Due to all employees having the 7.5 hour rotation changes Jana may require some time to respond.

If you have any questions contact your local steward or Regional Chair.
