National Nursing Week: May 8 - 14
The vital role nurses play every single day across British Columbia will be recognized May 8-14 during National Nursing Week. We hope every British Columbian takes a minute to celebrate nurses as the highly skilled professionals that we are, and to appreciate the dedication we bring to our work - day in and day out across our province.
In honour of BCNU members there are several activities to watch and listen for:
- The Our Nurses Matter Facebook page will feature video vignettes of nurses from around BC starting Monday May 8 and running right through the summer.
- A province-wide radio message from BCNU President Gayle Duteil will also air starting this Monday. In the message, Duteil speaks to the increased pressures facing nurses: packed emergency rooms, violent incidents against nurses, and long shifts with not enough nurses. Most important is her message encouraging all British Columbians to thank BC's nurses for their commitment and hard work 24/7. You'll catch the message on: CKNW 980AM, CKWX News1130, Mountain FM, 102.7 The Peak, JRFM, 103.5 QMFM, The Wave and CFAX on Vancouver Island, all Bell Media Stations, and all VISTA stations.
- BCNU is sending two nurses to the International Council of Nurses Congress (ICN) in Barcelona, Spain between May 27 - June 1, 2017. Successful applicants were recently selected by the BCNU Provincial Executive. Winners will be announced next week. The ICN 2017 is the world's largest event for nurses with more than 8,000 international nurses expected to be in attendance. Themes include: Health Care Systems; Sustainable Health Care, Disasters and Conflicts; Quality and Safety, Workforce and Workplace and Professional Practice & Policy Innovations.
BCNU is proud to lead the way for our over 43,000 members and for a better health care system for all.
Thank you nurses and Happy National Nursing Week!
