BC Nurses' Union President visits NRGH nurses to hear current patient care issues

February 14, 2014
Nanaimo nurses will also host a free blood pressure testing clinic and continue their public outreach over patient care concerns

Continuing concern about patient safety and plunging morale under a controversial new patient care model are prompting local nurses to show their colleagues some love on Valentine's Day (February 14th). Nanaimo nurses will host BC Nurses' Union President Debra McPherson at NRGH, to hear from frontline nurses firsthand and distribute Valentine's Day cards and gifts to lift morale. Island Health is replacing nurses with care aides on some hospital units, leaving remaining nurses with too many patients to safely care for. Conditions under the so-called CDMR care model continue to spark concern for patient safety on a daily basis.

Nurses are also showing patients their love by hosting a drive-in blood pressure and glucose testing clinic, at Optimal Health Centre, 1111 Dufferin Crescent, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. All members of the public are welcome to get tested and sign a petition.

There will be a media availability with BCNU President Debra McPherson at 1111 Dufferin Crescent, beside the BCNU Campaign Bus, at 2:00 pm.
