BCNU Council supports merger of UPN and BCNU

September 12, 2014
The new provincial council of the British Columbia Nurses' Union has passed a motion at its September 6th meeting in support of a tentative merger agreement between BCNU and the Union of Psychiatric Nurses (UPN)

The purpose of the agreement is to build a strong force that can develop a mental health strategy that will protect nurses from violence and deliver better mental health care for all British Columbians.

The UPN will vote on the tentative agreement before the end of October.

BCNU and UPN have had a longstanding relationship in bargaining, and at many worksites share important common nursing issues. A merger is the next logical step and will strengthen nurses' professional voice and support for public health care across BC.

Together, as one strong united union, nurses will be able to address violence in the workplace and advocate more effectively for the critical changes that are needed in mental health care.
