The BC Nurses' Union is proud to represent a diverse group of health care professionals across the province and as a result, is raising the awareness of Reconciliation Canada, a charitable, nonpartisan community based initiative working to build new relationships between Aboriginal peoples and all Canadians.

For the first three weeks in September, Reconciliation Canada is hosting an online event, profiling 10 success stories from a variety of community leaders. A downloadable 'citizen's toolkit' has also been developed to help inspire and assist individual efforts to take actions in their everyday lives.

BCNU members are encouraged to participate in celebrating reconciliation and promoting action in three easy ways:

  • Promote the online event via social media networks and request that members/colleagues/friends do the same.
  • Share in writing or video the way Reconciliation has affected your community in the past year and encourage others (friends, family, staff/co-workers) to join in -http://reconciliationcanada.ca/reconciliation-begins-with-me/our-shared-journey
  • Connect with your staff/team/membership to let them know about the intent and release details for the online event through organizational newsletters; list serves; blogs, and tweets.

BCNU is proud to support Reconciliation Canada's goal to engage people from across Canada in open and honest conversation about diversity. The hope is that these initiatives will help build resilient and sustainable communities.
