BCNU donates $10,000 to the Red Cross' Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund

November 15, 2013
On behalf of its members, and along with other nursing associations in Canada, the BCNU has donated $10,000 on behalf of its members towards relief for the disaster in the Philippines.

Both the Canadian government and the government of BC will match any donations from private citizens, between November 9 and December 9, 2013.

Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on November 7, 2013, devastating a number of communities in central Philippines. More than 2,500 lives were lost, and more than 650,000 people have been displaced. The nursing community here in BC includes many Filipino and Filipina nurses, who are in the hearts and minds of all BCNU members. BCNU President Debra McPherson encourages members and fellow Canadians to make personal donations to the Red Cross, to help aid agencies reach these desperate communities.

Find out how you can make a donation online, or call the Canadian Red Cross office at 1-800-418-1111.
