Convention 2013 at BC Women's and Children's Hospital

March 22, 2013
As part of this year's Convention, BCNU members rallied together on the front lawn of BC Women's and Children's Hospital, demanding management keep their promise of quality healthcare through safe staffing

Why BC Women's and Children's Hospital?

The situation at BC Women's and Children's Hospital is nearing crisis: no back-fill for vacancies, constant use of overtime to staff the birthing unit, and continued reliance on calling in already over-worked nurses; in total, more than 30 nurses have resigned in the past six months.

Colourful Message

On March 7, hundreds of nurses chanted and marched along Oak Street, equipped with placards and colourful umbrellas. Motorists honked and waved in support, and the Vancouver City police even helped escort everyone safely across the street. Following the rally, BCNU President McPherson walked the talk, bringing the message right to the door of Lynda Cranston, President of the Provincial Health Services Authority.
