Labour Board confirms LPN majorities for BCNU at 49 health authority affiliates, two facilities still under review

Applications to represent about 1,200 affiliate LPNs follows 2012 vote where 7,200 LPNs switched to BCNU

The British Columbia Labour Relations Board has released a series of reports confirming that a majority of Licensed Practical Nurses at 49 worksites across the province signed membership applications to join BCNU.

The LRB is still reviewing employer payroll data at two other health authority affiliates to confirm if a majority of LPNs at those facilities signed up with BCNU.

The 51 worksites are mostly seniors' residential care facilities and church-owned hospitals that are funded by provincial health authorities.

The LRB also published the list of dates by which direct stakeholders (i.e. unions and health employers) must submit their legal positions on BCNU's applications to represent affiliate-employed LPNs. Submission must be filed with the LRB by March 8, 2013, and after that the Board will make a decision about conducting a vote.

If the LRB allows LPNs at these 51 facilities to vote for their union of choice, they will join more than 7,200 LPNs at six health authorities who voted to join BCNU in October 2012.
