BCNU Makes Contract Gains for RNs at Six Private Long-term Care Facilities

BCNU has ratified new contracts with six private long-term care facilities that make gains for about 70 registered nurses employed at the facilities

Nurses at Arbutus (Vancouver), Capilano (West Vancouver), Lakeview (Vancouver), Holyrood Manor (Maple Ridge), James Bay (Victoria) and Sandringham (Victoria) long-term care centres have ratified collective agreements that will expire on March 31, 2020.

Some of the contract improvements are:

  • increases to vision care coverage for employees and their dependents
  • updated special leave language to clarify how credits are earned
  • job postings will now include more detailed information
  • maternity, parental, and adoption leaves have been renewed in accordance with current legislation
  • seniority will accrue when nurses are working in temporary assignments and during some unpaid leaves of absence
  • annual wage increases including retroactive pay are:
    • April 1, 2017: 1.50%
    • April 1, 2018: 1.70%
    • April 1, 2019: 2.0%.
