Union wants full information on investigation and recommendations to ensure staff data protected

The BC Nurses' Union is extremely concerned to learn of a cyber-attack that took place on May 21, 2020 targeting the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) computer systems serving Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and Providence Health Care (PHC).

According to VCH, the breach impacted the client database and files. The data includes client names, dates of birth, gender, addresses, phone numbers and other personal information.

BCNU wants full information on the breach investigation, as well as any recommendations that flow from the investigation to ensure data protection is improved in the future. The Union expects any member who has been impacted by this cyber-attack to be fully supported by their employer and will await to hear what steps will be taken to protect against further cyber-attacks.

VCH and PHC members who have concerns and want to determine if their personal information may have been impacted by this cyber-attack have been asked to contact the VCH call centre at 1-844-930-2843 or through email at questions@efap.ca.
