BCNU Elections 2020: Candidate Approval Process
The BCNU Nominations Committee has provided the following update to share with members, summarizing the process to confirm all candidates running for elected leadership positions within BCNU, following the close of nominations at 1200, July 22:
- A total of 164 nominations forms were received;
- The Nominations Committee determined that all nominees are members in good standing;
- 13 candidates are competing for the five provincial executive committee positions; there are at least two candidates for each of these positions;
- None of the nominees for the senior leadership positions were found to be ineligible due to a lack of BCNU union steward experience;
- 36 candidates are nominated for 20 regional council member positions;
- Of the 20 regional council member positions, eight will be declared elected by acclamation; and
- Of the 115 nominees for positions with the regions (excluding Regional Council Member positions), 72 will be declared elected by acclamation.
I encourage all members to visit the provincial candidates page and regional candidate pages to view the profiles of those running for elected positions.
This is the first year that the Nominations Committee is responsible for directly overseeing the nominations and elections within the regions. According to BCNU policies, regional nominations representatives are responsible for promoting and seeking members to fulfil any vacant positions on the regional executive committee.
