BCNU Celebrates 40 Years
2021 is a very special year in our union's history as it marks 40 years since a group of nurses came together to establish an organization committed to protecting and advancing the health, safety, social and economic well-being of our members, our profession and our communities.
2021 is also a year marked by two public health emergencies - crises that have showcased our members' ability to come together to provide extraordinary care under difficult circumstances. As a union, we have quickly adapted our services, and are proud to stand with our members as they continue to respond to the pandemic, opioid crisis and other health care challenges with professionalism, tremendous skill and compassion.
Let's celebrate the milestones we have achieved together. You are invited to learn more about the rich history of your union through over 40 years of solidarity and activism. Check out our website and social media throughout June to see snippets of BCNU's history, from interviews with founding members and activists, to inspiring stories of nurses' renewed resiliency and commitment to the profession. Additionally, through the BC Nurses' Union Fund held at the Vancouver Foundation, BCNU encourages members to make a meaningful and lasting impact with a donation aimed to support student nurse opportunities, professional development for nurses and humanitarian and disaster relief efforts.
