Pension Review Committee Recommendation

October 06, 2021
The Pension Review Committee (PRC), made up of three appointees from the Nurses' Bargaining Association (NBA) and three appointees from the employer, has issued the following joint statement:

The pension governance review (Appendix K) was negotiated in the 2019-2022 Nurses' Bargaining Association (NBA) provincial collective agreement in recognition of the important role pensions have in providing security for nurses upon retirement. The Pension Review Committee (PRC) has now completed the review and considered the options; the creation of a separate Nurses Pension Plan, the creation of a distinct group within the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) similar to police and firefighters or to remain status quo within the MPP.

The PRC has reached agreement on a recommendation to the MPP Partners to create a distinct group within the MPP. This recommendation is an important next step and much work remains to be done to achieve the creation of a separate group for nurses in the MPP.
