Nurses Elected to Office in BC's Municipal Elections

October 18, 2022
Members to bring nurses’ voice to local office

The BC Nurses' Union congratulates union members elected to leadership positions in their local communities in the Oct. 15, 2022 municipal elections across the province.

General local elections were held in municipalities around British Columbia for municipal and city councils, regional district electoral areas, boards of education, parks boards, local community commissions and the Islands Trust. The following BCNU members were elected in their local elections:

  • Linda Buchanan, Mayor, City of North Vancouver
  • Lailani Tumaneng, School Trustee, City of North Vancouver School Board
  • Teri Forster, Councillor, City of Prince Rupert
  • Stacy Middlemiss, Councillor, City of Duncan

This brings a unique opportunity for nurses' perspectives to help inform important decision-making in local communities. Their involvement will help support the union's ongoing efforts to influence the numerous socioeconomic factors that are at the roots of good health, to make health care better for all British Columbians.

Congratulations to all candidates who campaigned in this year's general local elections.
