WorkSafeBC to Increase Compensation Wage Rates

August 11, 2023
Members who have received WorkSafeBC financial benefits should contact the insurer to confirm their compensation rates are adjusted

The recently ratified Nurses’ Bargaining Association (NBA) provincial collective agreement contains retroactive wage increases that came into effect on April 1, 2022. The wage increases also benefit members receiving WorkSafeBC compensation benefits. Any NBA member who received WorkSafeBC financial benefits based upon earnings in a period in which they have received retroactive pay is eligible for an increase to their compensation wage rate if the retroactive wage increase adds to the earnings used to calculate the WorkSafeBC claim wage rate.

Members who have received benefits should contact the WorkSafeBC to confirm their compensation rates are adjusted.

Whom to Contact

Please reach out to your assigned WorkSafeBC wage rate officer (WRO) via phone. If you don’t know who your WRO is, please contact the Claims Call Centre between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Monday to Friday) using one of the following numbers:

  • Phone: 604-231-8888 (Lower Mainland)
  • Toll-free: 1-888-967-5377 (Canada)

When speaking with the Claims Call Centre:

  1. Inform the agent that you are requesting a review of your wage rate decision on claim, as it may be adjusted because the ratified Nurses’ Bargaining Association collective agreement contains retroactive pay increases.
  2. Request the telephone number of your WRO or ask that a task be sent requesting a call back from your WRO.

What to Expect

The WorkSafeBC Wage Rate team will determine eligibility and communicate as quickly as possible after they are contacted. A WRO will be in touch to collect updated earnings information and to discuss next steps. If your wage rate changes, WorkSafeBC will work to deliver any additional benefits to you or your employer as soon as possible.

Members with questions about the retroactive increase can also call BCNU at 604-433-2268 or 1-800-663-9991 and ask for the WCB advocate assigned to their region.
