Nurses' Violence Support Line Continues

A new, in-house service is now available that provides tailored assistance to members needing guidance and support following a violent incident

The Nurses' Violence Support Hotline that BCNU launched in 2015 has provided an invaluable service to nurses who have been assaulted while delivering care. After careful evaluation, this pilot project has concluded, and a new, in-house service is now available that provides tailored assistance to members needing guidance and support following a violent incident.

The toll-free phone number - 1-844-202-2728 ? remains active as the new Nurses' Violence Support Line during regular BCNU business hours. BCNU occupational health and safety officers will be available to assist members with:

navigating the reporting process;
accessing recovery support such as EDMP;
reporting to WorkSafeBC;
filing grievances; and, if necessary,
making referrals for legal assistance.

If you require access to counselling support, please use your employer's Employee/Family Assistance Program (EFAP), treating practitioner or visit a crisis center/emergency department.

IMPORTANT: Before calling the Nurses' Violence Support Line, you must report a violent incident using the Workplace Health Call Centre (1-866-922-9464) and start a WorkSafeBC claim by calling Teleclaim (1-888-967-5377).

Note: Members working at affiliate sites do not have access to the Workplace Health Call Centre and must report violence using their employer's reporting process.
