OH&S: is your employer adhering to worksite compliance plans?
BCNU is reminding all BCNU stewards and Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) representatives to take an active role in making sure that any employer compliance plans prepared following a WorkSafeBC inspection are carried out and adhered to.
It is also important that stewards provide the union with inspection reports, compliance plans and other documentation related to a worksite inspection.
Following an inspection, a WorkSafeBC officer's inspection report, and any orders it may include, must be posted at the worksite and shared with the JOHS committee.
Employers may also be required to submit a compliance plan to WorkSafeBC that address deficiencies identified in the orders. The plan should be also be posted at the worksite and forwarded to the JOHS committee, which can then determine if the plan has been implemented, and follow up if needed.
BCNU needs to be aware of the worksite incidents affecting our members so union staff can provide timely support and advice to stewards and JOHS committee representatives.
Therefore, BCNU is requesting that stewards and JOHS committee representatives forward the following WorkSafeBC reports to the union as soon as they are made available at the worksite:
- inspection reports
- compliance plans
- warning letters
- penalties.
The reports can be emailed to ohsreports@bcnu.org or faxed to 604.433.7945 or 1.888.284.2222, to the attention of the Occupational Health and Safety department.
