Reminder: LPN Registration Renewals Due Dec 31
All licensed practical nurse (LPN) members of the BC Nurses' Union are reminded to submit their applications to renew their College of Licensed Practical Nurses of BC (CLPNBC) registration for 2018 by December 31, 2017. The fee for LPN practicing registration renewal is now $350 for one year.
BCNU and the LPNs it represents are troubled by the CLPNBC's fee hike this year from $300 in 2017 to $350 for 2018, a change that places an additional financial burden on BCNU members.
The new fee amounts to a 15% increase. LPNs in BC have seen their practice fees go up every year since 2014 when the cost for renewing registration was $236 annually. BCNU is worried by the pattern of fee increases for nurses in BC and has been voicing strong opposition to further increases to LPN registration fees as a result of the merged nursing regulator.
LPNs who want to share their thoughts directly with CLPNBC should contact Carina Herman, Registrar and CEO of the CLPNBC via email executivedirector@clpnbc.org or by phone at 778-373-3101, or toll-free at 1-877-373-2201.
If you miss the deadline or do not renew, you cannot practice or volunteer as an LPN in BC. Remember that working without CLPNBC registration is an offence under the Health Professions Act and is considered professional misconduct. If you work without current practicing registration, you will be required to pay an additional fee of $400 and may be subject to an investigation by the Inquiry Committee.
