The BC Nurses' Union Stands With All Impacted by Wildfire Situation Across the Province

July 11, 2017
A donation of $10,000 will be made to the Red Cross for the wildfire relief

With a number of communities around BC under threat from raging wildfires, members are being encouraged to show their support and do what they can for their fellow nurses who have been impacted.

BCNU is immediately donating $10,000 to the Red Cross and is encouraging members to reach out to those who have been evacuated from their homes, or in worst case scenarios, have lost their homes due to the disaster. Up until now, over 14,000 people have been displaced and over 200 fires continue to burn across the province.

Officials are bracing for shifting weather patterns that could make conditions much worse.

BCNU is monitoring the situation and will provide more information in the coming days on how members can help. In the meantime, they are reminded that the Red Cross is accepting donations. You can text FIRES to 45678 to donate $10 to the Canadian Red Cross BC Fires Appeal. The money will go towards providing financial assistance, cots, blankets and family reunification services. More information on donating can be found here.
