Convention Delegates: First Time Experience
Why are you attending convention?
Sasha Johal – Shaughnessy Heights
I’m a new grad and I’ve been nursing for a year and a half. I’m taking this as an opportunity to learn so much about our union and our rights. This is a great opportunity for me.
Michael Pluegge – Fraser Valley
I am interested in getting more involved in the union. I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity.
Tara Radstaak – Shaughnessy Heights
I’ve come because I’ve been nursing for twenty years but haven’t been involved with the union because I’ve been busy raising a family. Now that my kids are older, I wanted to get more active in the union. I attended the Provincial Bargaining Conference and loved it! I’ve now become interested in becoming a steward – that is my goal for the future.
What do you hope to learn?
Dina Belusic – South Islands
I am hoping to learn and understand more about our union rights and guidelines, our policies and how our union works. I’m really looking forward to building camaraderie and strength.
Irene Chang – Simon Fraser
I want to see how convention is and how our bylaws are passed.
Melody Pan – Richmond Vancouver
I hope to learn how to use our collective voice – to speak up on behalf of health care, from the perspective of a nurse, to protect patient safety and their best interests. I’m going to spread the news of convention and encourage more new members to join the team, including more internationally educated nurses.
I’m from overseas, I trained over there, and at that time I didn’t realize the importance of being involved in the policy making process. It’s so important to get your voice heard in that process! That’s why we need to pay attention to the union’s business because it’s one of the channels we use to voice our concerns on behalf of patients and the health care system.
Ethan Smith – Okanagan Similkameen
I’m excited to learn more about the internal workings of the union, more about the history and the direction we’re going.
