Speaker Bio:

Asalah Youssef is a 17 year old photographer from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Asalah is currently studying at an art school and majoring in photography. She is passionate about using her love of imagery and storytelling to spark questions and create change. Her work has been exhibited in Fort Langley as part of the photo project, 'This Is Kwantlen'. She is a finalist for the second year in the Chesterfields photography competition at Canada's premiere photography space, The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver and has had her work exhibited in the Ryerson University Image Arts Centre. Her most recent body of work titled 'Screenshots of Home' documents people virtually around the world in their homes during quarantine. As well as her extensive photography work she actively advocates for sustainability, well-being, social entrepreneurship and youth involvement in social good.

Presentation: Finding My Creativity Amidst a Global Pandemic

Asalah's presentation will explore her inspiration and creative process behind 'Screenshots of Home', a photo series documenting people around the world in their homes during quarantine via FaceTime. It will take a deeper look into the experience of artistically adapting to a global pandemic and the stories of some of the people she met and photographed.
