Service Disruptions at Pacific Blue Cross Continue
Pacific Blue Cross (PBC), the non-profit benefit provider for BC Nurses' Union members and 40,000 other health care workers in BC has had service disruptions and a picket line at their Burnaby offices for a number of weeks now, due to an ongoing labour dispute with unionized staff.
PBC is operating at essential service levels only. As reported in our July 13th bulletin, customer service and processing of paper claims are impacted but electronic claims are being processed.
BCNU recognizes and supports union members' right to collectively bargain their working conditions and benefits. Our values of collectivity, equality, social justice and solidarity as well as our mission statement support the advancement of the social and economic wellbeing of our communities.
BCNU urges renewed discussion between the parties in order to resolve the dispute and minimize the impact on those who rely on the health benefits services provided.
Meanwhile, BCNU members may resubmit paper claims online through the PBC website or mobile app and will receive reimbursement. PBC has expanded their online services to improve members' access to benefits. Expanded services include 33 new claim categories so that members may claim almost any eligible health benefit online. Further details, updates and more answers to Pacific Blue Cross members' questions can be found on the Pacific Blue Cross website.
