Safety and Health Week 2024

Three nurses standing together

Safety and Health Contest : May 6 – June 11, 2024

To recognize Safety and Health week, BCNU launched an online contest asking members to share ideas on how to improve physical and psychological safety at work. We believe that together, nurses can create safer workplaces.

Members were asked to submit one idea that could improve physical and psychological safety at work.

BCNU’s Provincial Executive Committee will review submissions and winners will be announced in eNews on Thursday, June 27. Three winners will receive an Apple Watch. There will also be three random draws for gifts valued at $100 each.

North American Occupational Safety and Health Week (NAOSH)

North American Occupational Safety and Health week (NAOSH) was established in June 1997 and is marked by an agreement between Canada, Mexico and the United States. Since then, people across Canada have dedicated one week a year to raising awareness about the importance of safety at work, at home, and in the community.

This celebration creates an opportunity for a community-based approach to encourage safe work practices. The goal is to raise awareness that everyone has a role in preventing workplace incidents such as physical or psychological injuries and illnesses.

Members are encouraged to learn more about the National Safety and Health Week (NAOSH) events and activities in BC. All are coordinated by local, regional and provincial committees who share a vision of safe and healthy workplaces.

BCNU advocates with members and stewards for safer workplaces, and helps ensure employers implement comprehensive, evidence-based health and safety programs.
