Penticton Regional Hospital nurses Catherine Turcotte and Taylor Reimer

Celebrating Our Profession

What is your unit or specialty, and where do you work?
I work on an acute medical floor at Penticton Regional Hospital.

How long have you been nursing?
I have been nursing for three years now.

Why did you become a nurse and when did you know that nursing was for you?
I wanted a career that I could be proud of, something that my children could be proud to say their mother did. I went to nursing school as a mature student. I enjoyed life and took my time to decided that nursing was for me!

How would you describe the work you do in one word?
Rewarding

How does COVID-19 make you feel?
I came back to work from maternity leave at the beginning of the pandemic. I was quite scared of the possibility of bringing this disease home to my young family, but was pleasantly surprised by how well the union, the health authority and our hospital were prepared.

Name one thing on your nursing bucket list.
To work in maternity and post-partum care.

What do you appreciate most about your fellow nurses?
Their support and willingness to help. There are no silly questions!

Celebrating Each Other

Why do want to acknowledge Catherine Turcotte?
Catherine has the most infectious smile and positive attitude. She is the first person to lend a hand and an absolute blessing for patients that get the honour to have her as their nurse. She is one in a million!

We went to nursing school together and we both ended up working in the same hospital. Probably at least once a week Catherine is told how fantastic of a nurse she is by patients, other health-care workers, and doctors. She's just one of those people who gets under your skin the minute you meet them. She's a great human being and she's helpful to others – almost to a fault. She is a very cool person and she's just not like anybody you will ever meet again. If I am ever in the hospital, she could be my nurse in a heartbeat. •
